HP EliteDesk 800 NIC issue - 100mb/FULL not working

We have the same issue on some new HP EliteDesk 800s with the i217-LM card.

 

100mb full just doesn't work. The switches are hard set to 100mb/Full but the PCs are reporting 100mb/Half when we set to auto negotiate and hard set the PC to 100mb/Full. This causes collisions and we get dropped packets. I've tinkered with many settings on the NIC, and set the speed in the BIOS but no luck.

 

A test PC is set to 1GB (switch too) and it works fine.

 

Our network is 100mb/full and the switches are hard set (and we want it kept that way).

 

Any ideas? We want to hard set the PCs and the switch to 100mb/FULL like we have done on all 800 PCs in the building!

Anytime you post a question, it is very helpful to get as much details as possible. For example, you are not stating which OS you are having problems with. You also do not mention if this is at the OS level or at the BIOS level duing PXE booting for imaging

 

Assuming you are running Windows 7/x64, there are updted drivers for the NIC and the BIOS. You can updte directly frmo the web, starting at www.hp.com/go/support or update with HP Softpaq Download Manager (www.hp.com/go/sdm). Once updated, you should be able to set the speed of the nic in Windows Device Manager, nic driver property settings

 

If you still have issues after updates, then it might be an issue with the drivers and I suggest you open a case with HP Support. You can access support online at

then select "get help from HP" and "submit or manage support cases"

Hi Dan,

We have updated the latest drivers from Intel and HP for the BIOS and the NIC, to no avail.

We are running W7 Pro x64, and this si setting the link speed in the OS (through device manager or the network adaptor properties)

hi, please chhange the settings on your network card, speed link speed to 100mb full duplex, click apply and ok, restart the machine.

Hi,

 

We have tried this, but still no luck, Have tried turning off the etherent power saving features, jumbo packets etc, no luck.

 

I've logged with HP anyway.

 

Looking aroung, Dell have the issue too with the Intel i271-LM card

hi,, try this driver, restart the machine, after that change the speed.

We found a solution to our issue with the i217-lm

 

Regardless of whether we set the NIC to 100mb/full, it still tried to auto neg and neg at 100mb/half, despite switch set to 100mb/full and not to auto neg.

 

To fix, search the registry for the key LinkNegotiationProcess, and set it to 2.

 

In our case there were 3 instances that need changing.

 

The default setting is 1, which is to auto negotiate. 2 is forced. This has solved the problem on all our HP EliteDesk 800s.

 

Reg keys if anyone is interested, for our Intel i217-LM NIC:

Glad is working, looks like a bad driver from HP that should be done by the driver into the registry not manual, well is working now.
