HP Compaq dc5750 SFF - CPU (AMD) Upgrade to Dual Core ?

I have aquired a HP Compaq dc5750 SFF, (BIOS 2.22), AMD Athalon 2.2 MHz 3500+.

Any way I can find out which AMD X2  CPUs are usable for it ?

(The HP parts list seems to imply a different MoBo was used for some AMD CPUs,

but that may just be my interpritation.)

Re: HP Compaq dc5750 SFF - CPU (AMD) Upgrade to Dual Core ?

Hi:

I have attached a link to the HP Quickspecs for the dc5750.

If you look at page 7, it shows that it can support up to an Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 5200+ Processor (2.6-GHz, 2x1MB L2 cache, 2000-MHz FSB).

Hi:

I recommend you review the BIOS revisions and release notes and double check my opinion...

My opinion is as long as you have BIOS version 2.29 or newer, you should be OK. 2.29 added support for the latest G2 step processors. I looked at the later BIOs revisions and didn't see any processor-related updates.

Do follow generally accepted guidelines for flashing the BIOS such as disabling your anti-virus program if you use the Windows-based flash. Do not use a Windows Vista based flash on XP or an XP based flash on Vista or Windows 7 and you should be OK.

Should you need the BIOS flash, do flash the BIOS to the newer version BEFORE you install your new processor.
