Failed reinstallation of SoundMax audio driver: cleanup.exe missing

I uninstalled ADI SoundMax Audio Driver because it was only playing one stereo channel and then ran sp24465.exe to reinstall the audio driver. Reinstallation failed - error message title bar: "C:\SWSetup\SP24465\Sys\CleanUp.exe"; error message text: "The system cannot find the file specified."

System: HP Compaq d530 Convertible Minitower Desktop PC

Re: Failed reinstallation of SoundMax audio driver: cleanup.exe missing

Sometimes you need to remove a driver, reboot then load it again.

You can remove it through the device manager.

your audio driver

If for some reason it does not work:

Check your device manager.

In XP, you can look up the device name in the device manager.

Control Panel > System (icon) > hardware (tab) > Device Manager

If there is a yellow mark right click it, select Properties, Details tab...

You Will find a string like this one:

PCI\VEN_1102&DEV_0007&SUBSYS

copy and paste the entire string and post it here on HP site .... (copy CTRL-C and PASTE CTRL-V)

VEN_ is the vendor and DEV_ is the device model number ...

with that string we can get you the proper driver.

IF you do not see a Details tab:

To configure Device Manager to show details:

Click Start , click Run , type cmd.exe , and then click OK.
Type

set DEVMGR_SHOW_DETAILS=1

and then press ENTER.

Type

start devmgmt.msc

and then press ENTER

Re: Failed reinstallation of SoundMax audio driver: cleanup.exe missing

Thank you for your reply, but my problem is not in finding the correct driver; sp24465.exe is the installer for ADI SoundMax Audio Driver for Windows 98SE/2000/ME/XP, which was downloaded from http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=316722&p...
Nevertheless, here is the Device Instance Id for Multimedia Audio Controller that you requested: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24D5&SUBSYS_12BC103C&REV_02\3&61AAA01&0&FD.

Re: Failed reinstallation of SoundMax audio driver: cleanup.exe missing

You have the correct driver.

Try using the device manager to load the driver. You then will specify where the driver is.

say No to searching/connecting,next

choose Install Automatically.

IF that fails, so I would say it is either a bad card on the MOB or a bad connection.

you can always add a sound card.
