DC7800 Audio Drivers for XP 64bit

Hi!

I have been looking for audio drivers for Compaq dc7800 Convertible Minitower PC for quite some time, it is difficult as I am bound to be running Windows XP 64bit Professional. I have contacted support directly and they could only apologize for the inconvenience that no drivers are supplied for this operating system.

So, as a last resort, I'm wondering if anyone out there is in the same situation or similar, and has found a third-party driver or something that could fit? Maybe for another workstation model with similar specs?

Just in case, I supply the audio information from my motherboard specs:

Audio Device
Model : HP (ICH9) HD Audio Controller
Revision : A3
Type : HD (High-Definition) Audio
Version : 1.00
Number of In / Out / Bi-Directional Streams : 4 / 4 / 0
Number of Serial Data Streams : 1

Audio Codec
Model : Analog Devices 1884h
Revision : A1
Version : 1.00
Audio Channels : 6

Hi Tor,

What service pack level are you using? Do you have the UAA high-definition audio support installed? This is included SP3, but can also be downloaded separately.

Thanks,
Scott

Re: DC7800 Audio Drivers for XP 64bit

Had to go out on the internet for xp64

HP didn't have anything for XP 64 that I could find.

You may need the UAA file though..

Re: DC7800 Audio Drivers for XP 64bit

Thank you for your rapid answers, both of you. However, my problem remains unsolved.

Scott: I am running "Version 2003, Service Pack 2."

Rich: I have already tried the link that you provided for UAA XP SP2, I have found it in other forum posts and it does not work for x64, it simply gives the message "OS not supported, Installation cancelled". The first link is new to me but gives me the message "The audio driver files do not support your computer hardware".

I have also tried this fix, which is alledgedly for XP x64:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=US&swItem=wk-335...

but the installer here tells me that "Setup has detected that the service pack version of this system is newer than the update you are applying, no need to install this update " :P

Re: DC7800 Audio Drivers for XP 64bit

Thank you, but that is the exact fix which I mentioned last in my previous post, I tried it just to be sure and it yields the same result "No need for this update"

Re: DC7800 Audio Drivers for XP 64bit

Check your device manager. See if there are any Yellow marks.

In XP, you can look up the device name in the device manager.

Control Panel > System (icon) > hardware (tab) > Device Manager

If there is a yellow mark right click it, select Properties, Details tab...

You Will find a string like this one:

PCI\VEN_1102&DEV_0007&SUBSYS

copy and paste the entire string and post it here on HP site .... (copy CTRL-C and PASTE CTRL-V)

VEN_ is the vendor and DEV_ is the device model number ...

with that string we can get you the proper driver.

IF you do not see a Details tab:

To configure Device Manager to show details:

Click Start , click Run , type cmd.exe , and then click OK.
Type

set DEVMGR_SHOW_DETAILS=1

and then press ENTER.

Type

start devmgmt.msc

and then press ENTER

Re: DC7800 Audio Drivers for XP 64bit

Ah that's a good idea.

Here's my four yellow devices, I'm guessing the last one is the audio:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_29B7&SUBSYS_2819103C&REV_02\3&B1BFB68&0&1B
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_29B4&SUBSYS_2819103C&REV_02\3&B1BFB68&0&18
ACPI\IFX0102\1
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_11D4&DEV_1884&SUBSYS_103C2819&REV_1001\4&52A4CAF&0&0001

I see that you do NOT have the UAA listed and it may not be needed for XP64.

If it is needed, try this one...

If after all this it still does not work, it may be wiser to purchase a $20 sound card that will work with XP 64.

Re: DC7800 Audio Drivers for XP 64bit

Got "The audio driver files do not support your computer hardware"... tried both of the links you provided m in all possible orders :/

well anyways, thanks a lot for your help, you really put a lot of effort!

I am very curious of how you found out the models of my hardware only by looking at the description string. Is there like a central database somewhere?

Best regards

Re: DC7800 Audio Drivers for XP 64bit

Its pretty simple...

example: VEN_8086&DEV_29B7

8086 is the vendor code and the device is 29B7.

You can look a lot of these up for free on the internet. These are the same codes that drivers look at when they are loaded.

Sorry, couldn't be more help...
