Hello,
I got the 5 beep RAM failure on startup after installing additional RAM.
Original configuration:
2 x 256MB DDR 400 CL3, type PC3200U-30331-Z in slots XMM1 & 3
Tried adding:
2 x 1GB DDC 400 CL3 ECC REG, type PC3200R-30331-J0 in slots XMM2 & 4
When this didn't work I took out the 256MB DIMMs and put the 1GB Dimms into XMM1 & 3. Same error. Put the originals back, and the machine starts fine.
Are the 1GB DIMMs suitable for this machine?
If so, what else might be going wrong?
Thanks,
Piers.

Edit, the 1GB DIMMs should say DDR, not DDC.

Hi,
this ECC RAM are for server which support ECC (Error Correction Code).
I've not yet heard that a normal pc supports this.

Use SIW, goto Hardware, Motherboard and check howmuch memory your PC supports and
the size of the modules.
Like V.Nyga says, most PC's don't support ECC-memory.

Hi, Piers:
The dc7100 does not support ECC memory. That is why you are getting the error. You can install up to 4x1 GB PC3200 non-ECC, Low density memory.
Here are the quickspecs on the dc7100 where it indicates non-ECC memory is required.

Hello again,
Thanks for the replies, particularly Paul for the tech spec link. I've now put the ECC memory up for sale on ebay, and will be bidding on some NON-ECC memory very soon!
Piers.
