D500 memory issue

I have multiple D500's (3 DIMMs PC133), I can install 512MB into DIMMs 1 and 2, but when a 512MB stick is put in DIMM3 all kinds of memory errors appear and the units won't boot into the OS. No problems if the memory in DIMM3 is 256MB.

I've checked the memory and it appears OK. Is it possible to put in 3 sticks of 512 in these PCs?

Re: D500 memory issue

It depends on which model you have:

1.) The d500 which Celeron Processors and the Intel 815 chipset have 2 slots but the only support 512-MB and the 3rd slot is not functional.

2.) The Pentium 4 models with the Intel 854 chipset, however, support 3-GB.

Re: D500 memory issue

Hi Rainald,

Thanks for the quick response.

All of the units are Pentium 4 models (SFF). 2 of them have been updated to bios (20030410 686Y2 v3.06) - one of these has a 2.0 GHz, the other a 3.06 GHz - the remaining units have the original bios. The unit with 3.06 GHz has Windows 7, the remaining units have Windows XP-Pro. I have enabled "set ACPI/USB Buffers @ Top of Memory".

I can put 512-MB in any of the units in the DIMMS 1 and 2, but when I put anything larger than 256-MB in DIMM 3 it throws memory errors (in Windows Memory Diagnostics ...and, of course, the OS will not load).

Advice on what I should be checking for is greatly appreciated!
