1781 - Disk 1 Failure

I installed a Maxtor 40GB ATA (7200 RPM) in a Compaq Deskpro EP 6333 PC with 386 MB RAM. Installed XP Pro - Ran fine for 8 months. Now I frequently get 1781 - Disk 1 Failure startup error. In System Configuration - Primary Drive 0 has -- blank -- cylinders, heads & Sectors with 41110 MB. Ran Maxtor Hard Drive Utility with many extende hard drive tests and they all pass with no problems. Any Idea what to do next?

Re: 1781 - Disk 1 Failure

Jon,

Need more details about Disks configuration. Which disks on which ports? Master & Slave postures? Cables utilised? Which jumper set on each disk (CS, S, M?)

Normally primay IDE Port is referred to as 0 whereas secondary IDE Port would read 1.

Personally, I'd suspect some connection being not seated firmly enough. Check that at the moment and tell us if the problem persists.

Alain.
