Re: HP LaserJet 1100 USB printer cable?

I just ordered a cable from TekGems to attach to the existing cable to add a USB port. The cable was only $8.49 and it seems from other users, it appears to work just fine. I will pray that it works and can get back to you if you need me to. The cable should arrive by 04/07/09.

My story is that I just paid $80 for a new cartridge for this HP 1100 printer and would rather not throw it away. I purchased a new desktop PC with Vista 64bit OS on it and of course it only comes with USB ports, no "old" style DB25 ports. Hope this works.........more to come...

Re: HP LaserJet 1100 USB printer cable?

If your Laserjet 1100 has a centronics port like mine, then the standard DB25 won't fit.

But this will...

Re: HP LaserJet 1100 USB printer cable?

Sikna says,

You must not connect everyting together first or your printer will NOT WORK!

FIRST: Plug the USB to Centronics adapter cable into the computer BUT DO NOT CONNECT TO ANOTHER CABLE OR TO THE PRINTER YET!

The computer should automatically recognise and install the USB Printing Support and put a message saying it is ready to use.

SECOND: Connect to the other printer cable and to the printer and power the printer on.

The computer should automatically install the printer driver and put a message that the printer is ready to use.

Now your printer should work OK.

If not go to the Control Panel/Printers and Delete the printer.

Then you have to go to the device manager and uninstall the USB Printer Support there.

After this go back and follow the above directions again.

Sikna out...

Re: HP LaserJet 1100 USB printer cable?

First, thanks to Sikna on his Apr 30, 2009 instructions on connecting the USB cable. After I followed the instructions, I was able to print!

Second, I purchased just one cable, a female IEEE 1284 to USB printer cable for around $10(US) including shipping from here:
http://www.cubeternet.com/servlet/Detail?no=95

Lastly, I was not able to print connecting my cable to a Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Mini Hub. I had to connect the cable to a USB port on my Dell D630 Latitude.

Thanks to all for the help in this thread.

Re: HP LaserJet 1100 USB printer cable?

Hi All,

Connected a HP laserjet 1100 to Acer Travelmate2700's USB (no parallel port) using this AUD$2.20 (inc pp) lead (link below). Plugged it in; restarted; shazzam I am printing!

Cheers

Re: HP LaserJet 1100 USB printer cable?

For European customers please
see the following.

Worldwide customers can buy
but I think there are more affordable
solutions within the customers country
when delivery is added. (We might be
wrong!)

If you still have the old cable
then unfortunetly we do not provide
a tested solution using a USB to
Parallel (25 pin) with the old cable.

Anyone who has tried please let us know
as in theory you just require a

USB to 25 Pin Parallel Printer Cable
http://www.tronisoft.com/2484.php

The USB end fits onto the PC and the
Parallel end fits onto the old cable
but because we do not have a LaserJet
1100A, we are unable to test this.

---

The solution below has worked for many
customers using a HP 1100A on a
PC/Laptop with only USB ports on 98,
XP, Vista but NOT tested under Windows 7!

You require:

1) USB to Parallel (36 Pin Version)

http://www.tronisoft.com/2480.php

or

http://www.tronisoft.com/2482.php

and then you need:

2) Half Pitch Centronics Micro-C
Adapter Cable

http://www.tronisoft.com/2487.php

This shall provide a 36 Pin on your
PC/Laptop using this adapter and then
the Half Pitch Cable shall make it
into the mini connector for use with
the HP LaserJet 1100A plus many others.

Let us know if you have any problems
in getting this to work.

Re: HP LaserJet 1100 USB printer cable?

I have this printer cable problem too with my new HP desktop. I just bought the cable from your suggested Tigerdirect.com site. I ordered the USB to Parellel DB25 Female cable and I hope it works. I will be back here if it doesnt. It only cost $22 with shipping and handling which is cheaper than the "wrong fit " cables at Best Buy and others. Cross your fingers for me. Am I going to have problems with finding a driver for windows 7 and the Hp laser jet 1100 even if the cable works?

Re: HP LaserJet 1100 USB printer cable?

Good luck. You will not find a Vista or Windows 7 driver I don't believe. You may have to attempt to find a compatible driver for some other similar HP Printer that works in these system environments to get it to work. Again, good luck.

Re: HP LaserJet 1100 USB printer cable?

I am running Windows 7 with the LaserJet 1100 and have the same setup described in this forum (i.e., using the cables recommended) and everything is working fine. I think Windows 7 came with the driver for this printer preinstalled, but if not you can get it from HP's site.

Re: HP LaserJet 1100 USB printer cable?

Does anyone know what type of cables will allow scanning from the HP1100a to the computer?

The http://sewelldirect.com/USB-to-Mini-Centronics-Combo-Cable-Set.asp

says it will not allow scanning.

thanks

Re: HP LaserJet 1100 USB printer cable?

I have a new laptop and an old HP LaserJet 1100 printer. I found the adapter to convert my parallel cable to USB. The problem is that for some reason my laser jet still won't print. I used the driver that is included in WIndows 7 -- could the driver be trying to send to a parallel port? Any ideas on how to get my computer and printer to play nice?
