Cannot upgrade firmware on p2055dn via web jetadmin

The Laserjet p2055dn we have here is extremely slow to print PDFs. I ma trying to upgrade the firmware, as I read that resolves this. The current firmware is from 30/04/2009 and the one in the Jet Webadmin repository is from 08 March 2010. Every time I try to upgrade it the "select firmware version" box is just empty - even though the new version of the firmware is in the repository.

If you have the firmware located on a computer, then just ftp to the ip address of the printer and if you get a port1 icon, then just drag and drop the firmware file to port1.

Are you sure David? I can't see any evidence this printer (Laserjet p2055dn) has an FTP server. Connection is refused and I don't see a configuration option for it on the printer's built in website.

That is why I said if you see a port1 if you ftp to the printer. If it does not then maybe you can not do it that way. Another way is to put it on a local machine and send the firmware from a dos command line using the copy /b xxx.rfu port where you substitue rfu name and port name.

Re: Cannot upgrade firmware on p2055dn via web jetadmin

Great, thank you David. That worked perfectly. Interpreting your advice for unix I did the following:

# cat HP_LaserJet_P2055dn_20100308_build83504.rfu > /dev/usblp0

And it flashed it. Quick and efficient.

Cheers,
Bill.

Re: Cannot upgrade firmware on p2055dn via web jetadmin

It's fixed. Flashing by USB cable was easy and the printer now prints PDFs ok. I think the flashing allowed it to print via Unix CUPS at normal speed.

It was still slow to print PDFs via Windows until I stopped it using the Universal print driver and went onto one model specific. Now it is fine.
