What are your employees wearing to the office? Notes live from Mobile World Congress

This week, I’m in Barcelona at Mobile World Congress! The energy here is palpable, and I want to share it with you through the power of blogging. Through the week I will have a few updates about key observations and insights about enterprise mobility and the trends that you care about. I’m going to focus on BYOD (Bring your own device) and BYOC (Bring your own computer) and the future of these trends.  Let’s start with Monday’s highlights:

Apps, apps everywhere—In the App Planet at MWC, the team from HP met with app developers and leaders to explore the opportunity and issues that enterprises are facing with the proliferation of mobile apps everywhere.  The expectation of “there’s an app for that”, is forcing CIO’s and IT leaders around the world to constantly reprioritize their projects and start building apps. During this session we explored the incredible importance of User Experience and how IT developers have to re-think how they build and deliver apps.  Here are a few photos from the session.  I’ll post videos of the sessions shortly.

Wearables—One of the biggest things happening at the show is wearables.  Frankly you can’t miss the trend in Barcelona. It almost appears that Sony bought ads seemingly everywhere featuring their new line of wearable products.  (I was surprised I didn’t see their ads in my hotel elevator).  If you’re not already thinking about the future of wearables in your roadmap, you should be. The most common form factor I’ve seen so far is the watch and wristband, but it’s clear that any number of new devices will be showing up on your employees sooner rather than later.  What’s your BYOD policy for wearables?   Better take a look now.

So, if BYOD is bring your own device, and BYOC is Bring your own computer… wearables and tablets… might lead to Bring Your Own Stuff.

I’ll write up a quick summary tomorrow about other happenings at MWC and the exciting things we’re discovering.   Of course make sure you check out a recent blog post about the Best MADP in the world.

What do you think?  What impact will wearables have on the enterprise?
