‘Twas the night before Discover, and everyone was EXCITED!!

Discover Diaries – Day Zero

We normally start the week with a series of ‘advisory’ boards and this year was no different.   Over 15 unique advisory boards gathered this morning in the Venetian, each with substantial schedules.  The three things that were most impressive were

  1. The number of customers that are dealing with mobility issues.  Almost 100 percent of them had mobile      apps that they are trying to test or manage.   In the past, there’s always been a mix,      but this year, it seems like everyone I talk to is in various stages of      mobility.

2. Virtualization  is more and more common.      I don’t just mean virtual services, but also virtual networks and virtual      users (a little performance testing humor). It seems that the need to take      control of the test environment and remove roadblocks is driving this      change

3.  BYOD continues to grow.   BYOD is controversial.  On one hand, the FUD factor drives      people to try to lock down and avoid any risks they can imagine.  On the other hand, I’m hearing more and      more from organizations that are focusing on apps and data and are finding      ways to thoughtfully embrace BYOD.

Looking forward… HP Discover kicks off in full swing tomorrow.  72 hours of intense, engaging interaction with all of you.   Here are my highlights for tomorrow:

  1. The General session will be full of cool insight.  I’m looking forward to      hearing Tom Friedman – he’s always thought provoking…(If you’re not at      Discover – check out this page where you can see a live stream of Discover highlights)
  2. The SW Keynote @11:30 a.m. in Belinni  2106…  Come hear about our vision      and strategy from Robert Youngjohns.
  3. We have several BYOD round tables scheduled– 10:00 and 11:30 a.m.… Join us if you can, seats are limited
  4. The Discover Zone will be open with lots to      see and do.
