Day 1: Live at HP Discover – an Enterprise Mobility POV

Discover Diaries – Day One

I’m not sure about you, but the first day of any event is always a bit overwhelming.  The number of people, the lights, all the demos and the overall energy is impressive.   My schedule for this week started with a few really cool events.   In the morning, after a customer breakfast, I helped host two round table discussions where the focus was on BYOD and managing enterprise mobility.    I took a couple of informal poles and here’s what I learned:

  1. 100 percent of companies are supporting some form of BYOD. (Either in pilot phase or rolled out.)   Though, to be clear some had polices so restrictive that no reasonable person would agree to the 40 pages of BYOD terms.
  2. None officially support BYOA (Bring Your Own App).  --- I didn’t expect any, though at least 15 percent of the employees I talked to reported using their own apps for work (box, dropbox, email, todoist, evernote, etc) even a handful pay for their own tools!!!
  3. 100 percent support ios, 90 percent support android, 0 percent Blackberry, 0 percent support Tizen

There are some companies who are very progressive and trying to embrace BYOD and mobile productivity on the user's choice of platform... and others who for very sound business reasons are not ready to embrace the risks of BYOD.  But most everyone I spoke to agreed, that the future (either 2 or 3 years from now) will be a world where employees have work related access on a variety of devices.  BYOD, CYOD, etc.

And the best photos from the day are:

Looking forward to day 2… It’s looking like crazy day.  Here’s the highlights:

  1.  The Enterprise Mobility Keynote.  Agility, Security and Manageability with your mobile devices.   4:30 in the Innovation Theater.
  2. Learn about BYOD and the future of how HP Anywhere can help you solve your Enterprise Mobile Management challenges at 9am in Lido 3104
  3. If you want to get advice from experts who have been there and done that, then you won’t want to miss the session at 12 p.m. in Murano 3303.
  4. And, we’ll have another BYOD round table at  – 10:30 a.m. ...remember seats are limited
  5. The Discover Zone will be open with lots to see and do.
  6. …(If you’re not at Discover – check out this page where you can see a live stream of Discover highlights)
