Email_Configuration on sitescope(java.net.ProtocolException: 535 Authentication failed)

Hello,

I have configured the Email Preferences default setting.

After settings completed I clicked on TEST where I am getting following error message pop up.

"Mail Test Completed! The test message to binod@hpcloudfactory.com could not be sent. The error was: java.net.ProtocolException: 535 Authentication failed. Restarting authentication process."

I have restarted my sitescope many times but it giving same error message.

Can you help me to resolve this issues.

Please find the attached image for further reference.

Regards,

Binod

Thanks in advance

check the credentials given for SMTP server in email_preferences, may be they are not correctly set.

Re: Email_Configuration on sitescope(java.net.ProtocolException: 535 Authentication failed)

Binod,

you can simply test wether it's on the SiteScope side or on the mail server side.

On my SiS 11.22 on Windows I have set the following mail server parameters:

Email server domain name    : vm17008.deu.hp.com
Administrator email address : siegfried.gladitsch@hp.com
From email address          : siegfried.gladitsch@hp.com

all other values I left as default.

When I now test the email settings, I get the following result displayed on the screen:

Mail Test Completed!
The test message was sent to siegfried.gladitsch@hp.com
--> connecting to vm17008.deu.hp.com:25, timeout=60000
<-- 220 vm17008.deu.hp.com ESMTP Sendmail 8.13.1/8.13.1; Tue, 9 Jul 2013 12:11:18 GMT
--> HELO vm25177.deu.hp.com
<-- 250 vm17008.deu.hp.com Hello vm25177.deu.hp.com [16.58.25.177], pleased to meet you
--> MAIL FROM:<siegfried.gladitsch@hp.com>
<-- 250 2.1.0 <siegfried.gladitsch@hp.com>... Sender ok
--> RCPT TO:<siegfried.gladitsch@hp.com>
<-- 250 2.1.5 <siegfried.gladitsch@hp.com>... Recipient ok
--> DATA
<-- 354 Enter mail, end with "." on a line by itself
--> From: siegfried.gladitsch@hp.com
--> To: siegfried.gladitsch@hp.com
--> Subject: SiteScope test message (2001)
--> X-Mailer: SiteScope
--> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8"
--> Date: Tue, 09 Jul 2013 14:12:58 +0200
-->

--> This is a test. This is only a test.
--> .
<-- 250 2.0.0 r69CBIv0009681 Message accepted for delivery
--> QUIT
<-- closing connection

On the SiteScope system, simply open a command window and use telnet to access the SMTP server, and then follow the steps from above,
for example (from my box, all my input in red)

telnet vm17008.deu.hp.com 25

220 vm17008.deu.hp.com ESMTP Sendmail 8.13.1/8.13.1; Tue, 9 Jul 2013 12:17:46 GMT
HELO vm25177.deu.hp.com
250 vm17008.deu.hp.com Hello xxxx.xxxx.xxxx.xxxx [xx.xx.xxx.xx] (may be forged), pleased to meet you
MAIL FROM:<siegfried.gladitsch@hp.com>
250 2.1.0 <siegfried.gladitsch@hp.com>... Sender ok
RCPT TO:<siegfried.gladitsch@hp.com>
250 2.1.5 <siegfried.gladitsch@hp.com>... Recipient ok
DATA
354 Enter mail, end with "." on a line by itself
bla
bla
.
250 2.0.0 r69CHk96009684 Message accepted for delivery
QUIT
221 2.0.0 vm17008.deu.hp.com closing connection

Connection to host lost.

That's a simple test to find out if you can access the SMTP server fine from the SiteScope system.

Re: Email_Configuration on sitescope(java.net.ProtocolException: 535 Authentication failed)

Hi binod,

thanks for your update.

The message you now receive, is it the result of testing the email connection

(SiteScope -> Preferences -> eMail Preferences -> Test Email Recipient)

or is it part of a message when you have for example an alert trigger the email?
In the later case, check what template you have selected (by default "Typical" is selected,

and check whether or not you have the file "Typical" in both

<SiteScope>\templates.mail\

<SiteScope>\templates.mail.subject\

and whether they look "good":

templates.mail.subject\Typical

Group: <group> Monitor: <name>  Status: <state>  Sample: <sample> Time: <time>

templates.mail\Typical

This alert is from SiteScope at <newSiteScopeURL>

Monitor:  <groupID>:<name>
Tags:    <tag>
Group:    <group>
Status:   <state>
Sample #: <sample>
Time:     <time>

The thresholds in error are:
<errorOnly>

The thresholds in warning are:
<warningOnly>

The thresholds in good are:
<goodOnly>

Re: Email_Configuration on sitescope(java.net.ProtocolException: 535 Authentication failed)

Hi siggi,

Thanks a lot to give much more information on that,

I am getting a that mail from alert generated by the Monitor on error or warning,

Can I used my predefine message in Subject line on template so that it is easily identifiable that

which monitor is not in good condition.

Binod
