HP and Turnkey Deliver Out-of-the Box Automated Testing Frameworks

After collaborating for many years with TurnKey Solutions, we are excited to announce that HP will deliver automated testing frameworks for many popular enterprise applications.  HP is accelerating our clients’ ability to simplify high-quality application delivery while reducing the cost of quality and increasing application-driven business velocity.  The collaboration includes three core components:  Business Process Test (BPT) Accelerators, cFactory, and docEngine.

With the growing adoption of mobile and cloud computing as well as Agile methods which promise faster delivery of new functionality, enterprises are being asked to deliver new software updates to their end-users at a higher velocity with constrained resources.  When looking at packaged applications from a testing perspective, the industry standard practice for delivering software updates faster has been to expand the number of manual testers.

In fact, in many large packaged software (ERP/CRM) installations, the number of manual testers can quickly scale up to hundreds, or even thousands of people.  Automation can help drastically reduce this number while decreasing resource costs.  Automation can also enable the higher velocity that enterprises demand by taking manual latency out of the process of testing.

At the same time, test automation can also be challenging as it can also require expert automation scripting knowledge and the effort involved in maintaining automation scripts can often eliminate the velocity gains expected by automating.

CodePicture.jpgWith this announcement HP and TurnKey Solutions are now providing automated testing out-of-the-box – where the efficiency gains of automation are not stifled by the overhead of painstaking maintenance.

The  BPT Accelerators deliver pre-created test frameworks consisting of automated business process tests and automated business process components.  These tests and components are specific to HP Application Lifecycle Management and HP Quality Center implementations for HP Business Process Testing software and are fully integrated into HP ALM and HP Quality Center for immediate use in testing scenarios.  These accelerators combine ready-to-use tests and components to enable clients to quickly test popular packaged applications like Oracle E-Business Suite, SAP, and PeopleSoft resulting in scriptless testing for application delivery needs such as installing new implementations, quickly releasing patches and accelerating major upgrades.

Create Automated Test Cases -- Automatically

cFactory addresses the broad spectrum of testing needs for both packaged and custom applications.  There is not a single enterprise out there with a solution that does not involve customization or custom development.  cFactory solves this challenge by analyzing an application's screens, forms and objects as well as determining the regions that can be tested automatically.  It then creates HP BPT components that are populated in HP ALM or HP Quality center and can be quickly combined and used to create, schedule and execute automated tests.  cFactory supports test framework creation for the most widely used applications and platforms, including Oracle, SAP, .Net and Java.

Quality.jpgTo simplify and speed the process of creating enterprise-level quality reports, HP is now offering docEngine, an advanced, multi-source reporting technology for monitoring project quality.  docEngine supports the use of any off-the-shelf XML editor to design and create reports for use within HP ALM and HP Quality Center.  docEngine includes a standard library of most commonly requested testing reports and enables quick generation of custom reports to address scenarios. For example,  it supports the stringent documentation and reporting needs of internal and external audits, regulatory compliance and  best-practice team use for training manuals and procedures.

Today’s announcement further extends the partnership between TurnKey Solutions and HP,  and enhances the total value for users of HP quality and ALM solutions. The TurnKey products are built on top of HP Application Lifecycle Management and HP Quality Center, and the BPT components are implemented with scripts created by HP Unified Functional Testing --previously HP Quick Test Professional (QTP).

BPT Accelerators, cFactory, and docEngine will be available soon through HP Direct Sales, HP Channel Partners, and HP Services.
