HP ALM 12.01 Launch – Fresh out of the Oven

Nothing beats the great fragrance of a freshly baked pastry.out of the oven.jpg

That distinct accurate smell that tells you it is done and ready to be taken out of the oven at the very instant the timer strikes. This is the moment of perfection.

This is the exact point we took HP Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) 12.01 out and now we are delighted to serve it to you.

HP Software has just released the 12.01 release of HP ALM, and today I want to tell you a bit about it.

As you know, we introduced the much anticipated Web Client module in ALM 12 and have improved it in this new release.

The Web Client offers a new slick and lean user interface that opens up ALM and makes it accessible from almost any browser and from various operating systems including Windows, Linux and Mac without installing anything on the client side. This capability alone makes HP ALM available to a much wider set of stakeholders and roles - the organization type of roles—bringing additional value to the organization.

We did not stop there and leveraged this great opportunity to enhance much of the existing capabilities and introduce new ones.

If you are not yet familiar with HP ALM 12.00 Web Client and its capabilities you can take a quick look at the following three video tutorials: Getting Started, New Features, Step by Step.

HP ALM 12.01 further enhances and refines the Web Client capabilities we introduced in HP ALM 12.00. Here are some of the highlights of HP ALM 12.01:

Author Mode Enhancements

One of the coolest new features of the Web Client is the author mode of the Requirements Module. By using the author mode you can write a collection of requirements in a document-like display. In this release, we have enhanced this capability further and now the author mode allows you to smoothly add new sections to your document and easily control the sections’ directly from the author mode view.

Direct Add new requirement option is now available in Author Mode

Direct Export in Various Formats

In both the Requirements and Defects modules that are supported by the Web client, you can now easily export the viewed content or selected content in two clicks in either HTML, PDF or Microsoft Word format.

The Export option is also available in the Author mode, enabling you to export a requirement hierarchy in a document format with automatically numbered sections.

Traceability Enhancements

The vast traceability capabilities of HP ALM are of the main pillars the product and are given special treatment in the Web client. HP ALM 12.01 further enhances the traceability related functionality by:

  • Drilled down Grid views for each traceable entity type with which you can filter items and select the trace related fields to be displayed.
  • In Requirements, you can aggregate all traceability links of the entire sub-tree as a summary view.

Web Client Customization

The Web Client brings with it whole new groundbreaking concepts of project customization with great attention on simplicity and manageability. Some of the customization related enhancements include:

  • Editing the layout using the visual form editor is now much easier by having Drag & Drop capabilities of the fields directly on the form.
  • Moreover, fields that do not to span across the entire width of the screen are now distributed evenly and automatically to follow the screen resolution changes to maximize the utilization of the viewing area.
