Agile delivery and Specsavers Optical Group: collaboration, solution and software service

As a response for greater business ability and the need to outpace the current speed of software delivery, Agile is key to successful software development.  Tracing its historical roots from the works of Deming, Drucker, Ohno and other business process luminaries, the trick for organizations is to apply Agile in context according to the needs of business leaders at the fastest possible pace that organizations can successfully absorb.  While this sounds simple, the detail of Agile execution and scale require certain nuances and a decent amount of skill.  Forrester’s Thought Leadership White Paper, commissioned by HP discusses in detail the development of Agile software and the factors that drive organizational success.  You can read this paper here.

specsavers.pngRecently, Specsavers Optical Group Director of IT Applications and Quality, Jason Taylor, and Environmental Delivery Manager, Tim Collins, discussed in a candid interview how the implementation of HPALM has made a dramatic and positive shift in their entire organization’s supply chain.

Specsavers Optical Group is an international company providing trusted eye care service, affordable glasses and contact lenses to a number of countries in Europe and across the globe, using the latest optical equipment.  HP ALM, in collaboration with HP Quality Center, has greatly improved the organization’s retail and supply chains within a multi-faceted environment encompassing a range of testers, developers, project managers, and senior managers.  Specifically, HP ALM has provided a special emphasis on where to focus testing efforts.

Ispecsavers video.pngt has also enabled testers to provide self-service and key insights.  As mentioned in the video, HP ALM has fundamentally allowed all Specsavers’ teams to collaborate for reporting and visibility to serve in their own environments.

HP ALM and HP Agile Manager have significantly improved quality for Specsavers, including a 15 percent reduction in defects and cost savings with a 20 percent reduction in overall release costs.  Within team environments, it has enabled simplified planning (per fixed team, fixed schedule, and fixed budget).  Also, it has increased Specsavers’ delivery by 15 percent in velocity.  Indeed, HP ALM has provided an extraordinary solution to software services for their entire supply chain.
