New design coming to the HP Enterprise Business Community

Tomorrow we will be adding the new brand and design of http://www.hp.com to our community.  The new redesign ensures consistency across HP’s web and brings changes to the page layout also and replaces the black with a more legible white background.  Other changes being made are:

  • Header is consistent with HP.com
  • Heading marquee has been removed on both the entry page and also the category pages, allowing more content to show above the fold
  • Right rail is much slimmer, allowing wider body portion of page
  • Use of white for the background
  • Use of orange for “Community Alert” and “Hot Topic” threads
  • Pages with no right rail have a more streamlined top section with search & login
  • Footer is consistent with HP.com

If you have any questions, please let me know.

I no longer see each post's subject.

Also, the line with the "[New]" should be on the same line as the timestamp.  Or is this "[New]" all that is left over from the missing subject line?

It appears this "New" seems to be of varying distances from the left.  Not sure if it is due to the font or what?

(They finally fixed it and put them back.)

One other complaint I have is when I drag my pointer from the tab or address bar down to the body of a category, board or topic, it now activates the dropdown menu for Discussion Boards, Blogs, Community Knowledge Base or the ! info messages.  This is very distracting to have the menu appear and then disappear.

The old forum required a click to open them up.

So either put it back the old way, increase the hover time or make it configurable.

I also hate the way that the Share button did the same thing in the old forum.  Especially since I never use it.

At least in the new forum, it goes away much quicker and has been moved to the right.

That was the second annoying thing I noticed.  The first was an
excess of vertical white space between items in a listing.  (Better than
vertical black space, I suppose.)  A little more of an actual posting is
visible on the first screenful, but not much.  The heading still wastes
much area.

The HTML titles are still all the same (and equally uninformative) on
the "All Topic" listing pages.  I'm away from my usual VMS workstation
at the moment, but I assume that nothing has been done to make this
stuff work there.

The best new HP Web site feature is the new favicon.  Light blue and
transparent on a gray background are approximately indistinguishable.

I also found my first white on white chars.  (This was black on black before but I can't find if I mentioned this exact board?)

As before, if you select the invisible text, you can see it.

(I did look at some of the other reported black on black and luckily, they haven't been broken.  :-)

(It looks like this was solved by just deleting the text on that category.)

Re: New design coming to the HP Enterprise Business Community

Looks fine in MSIE and Chrome, but it is really large in Firefox, with the user forced to scroll to the right.

Also, the Firefox add-on NoScript reports attempted cross-site scripting (XSS) from http://h30499.www3.hp.com.  You may want to have the technicians adjust whatever script they have running.  The NoScript console has a whole series of security violations in addition to just its general prevention activity of secondary scripts.

Another layout problem on each board Legend:

http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/Data-Protector-Support-and-News/bd-p/itrc-251

Each of the columns should be squeezed down.  No need to try to "center" things.

(Looks like this was fixed.)

Any reason these pictures haven't been removed on all of the networking sub-categories?

(Just replace with the logo that's in the current picture.)

(The pictures have all been removed now.)

Re: New design coming to the HP Enterprise Business Community

Unfortunately the Board and Topic options were moved to the middle and harder to find from before, not sure I've mentioned it.

But I just noticed that these menus have just be moved back to the left.  Thanks!
